OSHA and EPA Compliance Audits

OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) was founded in 1970 to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for employees. The purpose of OSHA is to create and enforce safety and health standards in the workplace. OSHA provides training and education on safety and health issues in the workplace and also performs inspections to ensure workplaces are in compliance with all OSHA regulations. A compliance officer may perform an OSHA inspection for the purpose of investigating imminent dangers, fatalities and catastrophes, or employee complaints. Additionally, “high hazard” industries undergo regularly scheduled inspections. Citations and fines may be issued in the event that safety or health violations are found during a workplace inspection.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) utilizes compliance monitoring in order to ensure that human health and the environment are protected. The EPA performs compliance monitoring for 44 different statutory programs, some of which include Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Emergency Preparedness and Community Right-to-know Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and Safe Drinking Water Act. The EPA offers incentives for facilities that disclose violations prior to inspections. Violations may also be discovered due to tips or complaints submitted by members of the public. These types of violations may result in civil and/or criminal penalties.

MartinEnviro can provide clients with “mock inspections” to identify OSHA or EPA violations occurring within the workplace. After the inspection, clients will be provided with a checklist of potential violations that will also include recommendations for cost-effective remedies to ensure that the facility is in full compliance with existing OSHA and EPA requirements.
